We shall provide competent representation to a client. Competent representation requires the legal knowledge, skill, thoroughness and preparation reasonably necessary for the case.
We shall abide by a client's decision concerning the objectives of the case. A lawyer shall abide by a client's decision to accept an offer of settlement.
We shall act with reasonable diligence and promptness in representing a client.
We shall keep a client reasonably informed about the status of a case and shall promptly comply with reasonable requests for information.
We shall explain a matter to a client to the extent necessary to allow a client to make an informed decision on a case.
We shall maintain the confidentiality of information communicated to him by the client unless disclosure is consented to by the client, required by law or ethics, or unless necessary to accomplish the goal of the representation.
We shall not represent a client if a conflict of interest exists. A lawyer owes undivided loyalty to a client.
We shall not institute or defend a case unless there is a good faith basis to do so.
We shall make reasonable efforts to expedite litigation consistent with the interests of his client.
